Substance over status
We respect historical landmarks, but we believe some of the deepest pleasure in wine is found before reputation has fully caught up with quality.
Northbound Wines is a highly selective import project. We connect independent growers from Northern Italy’s alpine edges with people who value substance over status.
Northbound was born while renovating an old house in the heart of Piemonte. Over slow afternoons and shared meals, I began building relationships with quiet, serious producers making wines with purpose, character, balance and a clear sense of place — at prices that still make sense.
The portfolio remains deliberately small and deeply personal. If a bottle would not earn a place in my own cellar, it does not belong here.
The most memorable bottles are rarely the loudest. They are the ones that make you pause, look at the label, and wonder why they are not better known.
We look toward Alto Adige, Piemonte, Valtellina, and the surrounding alpine valleys. These are regions where freshness, vivid structure, and drinkability often matter more than weight.
Crisp mountain whites, elegant Nebbiolo, precise Pinot Noir, and traditional-method sparkling wines are natural starting points, but geography is not the boundary. The discipline is simple: find honest, energetic wines with a price that still makes sense.
We respect historical landmarks, but we believe some of the deepest pleasure in wine is found before reputation has fully caught up with quality.
We are interested in the people behind the bottle: the meals, conversations, vineyards, and choices that explain why the wine tastes the way it does.
Because we are small, we can afford to be exacting. Every allocation must pass a simple test: would we proudly serve this to our closest friends?
Our first allocations, tastings, and producer partnerships are currently taking shape. If you are a restaurant, wine bar, producer, or private collector interested in distinctive wines chosen for their merit rather than their marketing, we would love to start a conversation.
